Minutes for the AGM 2015 (June 23rd 2015) @ 9.30pm
Members present
Chris Delmanso (Chairman), Rob Wilson (Secretary & Treasurer), Anthony Delmanso, Terry Harper, Lee Laing, Rob Garrington, Diane Cornish, Ashley Parton, Carlson Head, Amy Jones, Neil Morris, Dave Wilcox, Chris Zaadstra, Linda Delmanso (honorary member)
Apologies received: Sue Rutter, Peter Craig, Fran Walsh, Peter Delmanso, Dave Gough
Chairman's Opening Speech
Chris DM thanked everyone for attending the AGM; numbers down from last year! He reflected that he felt this last 12 months had not been as successful as the year 2013-14 as the club has lost a number of members for various reasons. However, all four courts are usually filled on Club Nights. There has been an ongoing undercurrent of issues with league matches.
Treasurer's Report
Figures for the 12 months ending May 31st 2015 were presented. This date will continue to represent the end of the accounting year for the Club.
As @ May 31st 2015 the Club's Bank Account balance stood at £1914.87
Income =+ Membership Subs £4515.00 | Visitor fees £1007.00 | Xmas Guests £179.95 >> Total £5701.95
Expenditure = Serco (Courts) £3764.96 | Shuttlecocks £109.19 | Xmas Party £1288.30 | Badminton England £196.00 | Shropshire County Badminton £56.00 >>> Total £5482.95
Underspend = £219.00
In view of these figures it was agreed that the increase in Membership Subs to £15 last Sept has been the right thing to do. Guest fees will remain at £5 per session this year.
The Bank Balance remains healthy and it was felt that more could be spent on some suitable social events.
Resignation and Election of the Committee
Social Secretary
Chris DM proposed thanks to Linda Delmanso for organising the socials and Xmas party last year. It is generally recognised that this is a thankless task on the whole. Linda commented on the frustration of people not replying to her emails.
However, she did agree to continue in the post for this year.
Possible social events put forward were a Brewery trip at the Joules Brewery in Market Drayton and a Fish-and-Chip Cruise on a Canal Boat from Norbury Junction.
It was agreed that any Club subsidies towards socials will ONLY benefit those who actually turn up.
Christmas Party 2015
A suggested date was Sat Dec 12th 2015, in view of the fact that BB Club has already bagsied Sat Dec 19th for their party; and many people overlap clubs.
It was unanimously agreed that we should go to The Shropshire once again.
The £10 Deposit for tickets worked well last year and will be repeated this year; this is to help ameliorate any financial impact of non-attendees once tickets are booked.
Chris Zaadstra suggested that the Saturday before Xmas should be equally shared between Premier and Burton Borough Clubs alternate years.
Accessibility of Club Shuttles
There has been an occasion when there were very few shuttles available on one club night. Some way of giving any member access to shuttles at Wenlock Hall was discussed; a key safe for the lockers on the balcony was an idea put forward, or a lockable box in the storage cupboard (combination lock). Rob will sort.
League Matches
There was much discussion regarding whether or not Premier Badminton Club would want to stay in the league. There did not seem to be much appetite for this at the AGM. Problems that were discussed:
Badminton England
There was discussion about the Club remaining in Badminton England if we pulled out of the league. It was felt on balance that the club should remain affiliated, if not only for the Civil Liability Insurance component of the membership.
Amy Jones Resignation
Amy announced that she will be leaving the club with immediate notice, but may come as a visitor from time to time. Chris DM expressed that we were all sorry to see her go.
Club Tournament
This was thought a good idea and Chris DM said he will organise this in the near future.
Meeting Closed @ 10.50pm

Resignation and Election of the Committee
- Chris DM resigned as Chairman but volunteered to stand once more; this was proposed by Rob Wilson, seconded by Ashley and was voted in unanimously
- Rob Wilson resigned as Secretary and Treasurer but volunteered to stand again for both posts; Rob Garrington proposed this, Anthony seconded and was voted in.

League Matches
There was much discussion regarding whether or not Premier Badminton Club would want to stay in the league. There did not seem to be much appetite for this at the AGM. Problems that were discussed:
- Not having a fixed “team” makes it more difficult to get a team together to play; especially for away games on unattractive nights (eg. Friday at Pontesbury)
- There would be more scope to field a Men's Team, but a Mixed team is more difficult due to the small number of lady members.
- It was discussed whether it was fair to enter a Men's Team and not a Mixed Team.
- Rob G suggested friendly matches for a mixed team?
- On a straw poll of men attending the AGM as to who would want to play, only Carlson voted.
- This needs to be decided upon by August and it was felt that there should be a “whole club” vote on this. Chris DM will organise and offered to be Match Secretary if we continue to play in the League.
- Zac commented that if we continue to play, the Club ought to provide some feather shuttles for match practice purposes.
- If members vote that we should play in the League, then they ought to commit to playing a certain minimum number of matches.

There was discussion about the Club remaining in Badminton England if we pulled out of the league. It was felt on balance that the club should remain affiliated, if not only for the Civil Liability Insurance component of the membership.
