Minutes for the AGM 2017 (June 13th 2017) @ 9.30pm
Members Present
Chris DM, Rob, Lee, Adam, Phill, Gill, Ron, Chris A, Di, Dave W, Terry, Steve H, Ash, Anthony, Zak, Carlson
Apologies received: Pete
Chairman's Opening Speech
Chris DM thanked everyone for coming; a better turnout for the AGM this year. He said that he felt that the club had again had a good year, with more new members joining. All four courts are usually full on club nights, but on the whole felt that the number of courts was just right....... some nights being busy and some quieter.
Treasurer's Report
Figures for the 12 months ending May 31st 2017 were presented. As before, this date represents the end of the accounting year for the club.
As @ May 31st 2017, the Club's Bank Account Balance stood at £2506.85
Income = Membership Subs £4650.00 | Visitor Fees £1041.50 >> Total £5691.50
Expenditure = Serco (Courts) £4145.47 | Shuttlecocks £93.61| Xmas Party £508.20 | AGM Food 2015 £49.20 | | Badminton England Subs £192.00 || Social £100.00 | Joules Brewery Social £0 >> Total £5088.48
Underspend = £603.02 (profit)
In view of these figures it was once more agreed that there is no need for a change in Membership Fees or Guest Fees.
The Bank Balance remains healthy and again we could spend more on suitable social events perhaps. If there is a greater underspend next year, then a reduction in Membership Fees will be considered.
Resignation and Election of the Committee
It was agreed again that Club subsidies should ONLY benefit those members who actually attend.
Collection of Visitor's Fees
Di asked if there was a formal system for collection of visitor's fees, in the event of Rob not being there. This has always worked on common sense with one of the other members of the club collecting the money in lieu of Rob....... this has always worked well and there seems no need to make this more formal at present
Christmas Party 2017
A suggested date was Saturday December 16th 2017 and it was unanimously agreed to give the Shropshire a miss this year. A discussion of possible venues included The Hadley Park hotel, The Hundred House, The Peach Tree, The Buttermarket.
Partners are welcome but must be paid for in advance at the time of booking.
The returnable £10 deposit for member's tickets worked well last year and will be repeated this year; this to to help to ameliorate any financial impact of non-attendees once tickets are booked.
League Matches
There was no appetite for taking part in any League Matches as a club.
Badminton England
It was felt that the Club should remain affiliated to Badminton England. Benefits include promotion of the Club on their website, the ability to say we are a BE Club; Civil Liability Insurance as well. Di pointed out that the charging structure has changed, but should not impact the club to any great degree.
Club Tournament
Chris DM apologised for not arranging a Tournament last year.... but will do so in early September...maybe Tuesday 5th Sept.. Details to be confirmed. A decent prize to be purchased.. Perhaps a prize-giving in the back room at The Wheatsheaf (?with food) perhaps.
Website
Rob will update photos.
Pegging System
Terry made the observation that sometimes players can get into a bit of a rut where they end up playing with the same people all evening; this was generally not thought to be too much of a problem, and common sense should prevail; if necessary (in exceptional circumstances) games could be picked from the first 10 on the peg board (rather than 8) if this is an issue.
Any Other Business
None
Chris DM thanked Rob for organising the AGM this year.

Resignation and Election of the Committee
- Chris DM resigned as Chairman but volunteered to stand again; this was proposed by Zak, seconded by Ash and was voted in unanimously
- Rob Wilson resigned as Secretary and Treasurer but volunteered to stand again for both posts; this was proposed by Chris DM, Neil seconded and Rob was voted in.
- In the absence of Sure Rutter , and not having had any formal notice that she wishes to stand down from being Social Secretary, Di proposed her and Adam seconded; if she wishes to continue this will be fine; if not, then Ash volunteered to be back-up.
It was agreed again that Club subsidies should ONLY benefit those members who actually attend.
