Treasurer's Report

Figures for the 12 months ending May 31st 2019 were presented. As before, this date represents the end of the accounting year for the club.
As @ May 31st 20198, the Club's Bank Account Balance stood at £1264.50 (last year £2231.42).

  • Income = Membership Subs £3900.00 | Visitor Fees £757.00 >> Total £4657.00
  • Expenditure = Serco (Courts) £4414.97 | Shuttlecocks £118.10 | Xmas Party £813.85 | AGM Food 2018 £96.00 | Social/Tournament Food £125.00 | Club Insurance £56.00 >> Total £5623.92
  • Overspend = £966.92 (loss)
  • In view of these figures it was agreed that there would be no increase in Membership Fees or Guest Fees, as we are primarily a badminton club. However, it was felt that, to mitigate costs of the Xmas party, members would pay £10 per attendee towards the cost and there should be a drive to encourage new members.

Resignation and Election of the Committee

  • Zac resigned as Chairman ; Zac was again proposed as Chairman, seconded by Adam and was voted in unanimously
  • Rob Wilson resigned as Secretary and Treasurer but volunteered to stand again for both posts; this was proposed by Anthony, Ash seconded and Rob was voted in.
  • Ash agreed to continue to be acting Social Secretary, with Carlson's help and they were voted in.

    Social Events

  • Proposed social events were a Fish & Chip Cruise from Norbury Junction, a 10-pin Bowling evening at Telford (maybe in October) and the usual meals out from time to time.
  • It was agreed again that Club subsidies should ONLY benefit those members who actually attend these functions.

Christmas Party 2019

  • A suggested date was Saturday December 14th 2019; there was some discussion about the options of a) a “party night” with food and dancing or b) a restaurant option with better food and no dancing. Option a) was voted for unanimously.
  • It was proposed that a Party Night at Lilleshall would be a good option this year and this was voted for. Please note a 20% discount will be given off B&B at Lilleshall..... this is good value if you want to stay over.
  • Rob will enquire and book if possible. (STOP PRESS : Booked for Sat 14th 2019)
  • Partners are welcomed but must be paid for in advance at the time of booking.
  • There will be a £10 ticket fee this year for members.
  • It was agreed also that, for economic reasons, wine/drinks will not be provided by the Club this year.
  • The issue of provided drinks has been brought up by a member of the Club, pointing out that non-drinkers were disadvantaged by only wine being provided by the Club at the Xmas party. It was discussed and it was pointed out by a number of members that beer drinkers and drivers also would not have benefited from this wine. To prevent any unfairness in this practice going forward, no drinks will be provided this year; it was also felt unreasonable that any monetary or material value should be placed upon any perceived benefit lost in previous years.
  • The Xmas party night is a benefit of membership paid out of subscriptions and not a right; a ticket for each member will be provided, but it is up to them whether or not to attend. There is no right to a “refund” if not attending.

      League Matches

  • Again, there was no appetite for taking part in any League Matches as a club.

    Attracting New Players/Members

  • Rob will look into updating the website and Search Engine Optimisation
  • It was proposed by Pete that new guests should be allowed to play free of charge on their first visit to the Club, and this was agreed unanimously.

 Club Tournament
  • Zac agreed to organise another tournament later this year or early 2020.

    Pegging System

  • This was agreed to working as well as possible; common sense to be applied as needed!

       Any Other Business
  • Pete thanked Rob for organising the AGM this year.
